Just before Republicans opened their convention last Tuesday, Trump had trailed Clinton by almost 10 percentage points in the poll.

The New York businessman-turned-politician formally accepted the Republican nomination for the November 8 presidential election during a convention at which the party at times struggled to show unity.

In RealClearPolitics.Com, which keeps track of all major polls, in an average of recent major national polls, Clinton leads Trump by 1.9 per cent.

A plurality of Idahoans think Donald Trump is more qualified to be president than Hillary Clinton, even though a majority still don’t think he has the temperament for the job, according to the latest poll released by Idaho Politics Weekly.

Since the poll took place during the Republican National Convention, it makes sense that Trump gained support.

Earlier in the day, Allen announced his support Clinton because he believes she is the leader most capable of keeping America safe. They have the opportunity to draw away more votes from Hillary than from Trump, with the levels of disgust over DNC corruption. Conversely, 24 percent of those polled said the convention made them feel “much more negative” toward the candidate.

Using his service to bash Trump, who suggested last week that the United States would not honor the NATO treaty, Clinton said, “That is how committed he is and many other are to our alliances”. Perhaps most troubling for the Clinton supporters gathering in Philadelphia this week: 68% now say Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, her worst rating on that measure in CNN/ORC polling.

During an hour-long event in Roanoke, Virginia, Trump labeled Clinton “low-energy”, the same characterization he lobbed at Republican rival Jeb Bush; attacked her running mate, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia; and complained about the air conditioning in the hotel ballroom where he spoke. In some ways, the trajectory of the Clinton-Trump race so far has resembled a “vintage” presidential race, with wilder swings in the polls, as opposed to the 2004, 2008 and 2012 elections, when the polls were generally quite steady.

The numbers do account for a post-convention bump, and FiveThirtyEight still has Clinton winning in its long-term “polls-plus” forecast, which considers current polls and historic information.

Trump has not held this great of a lead over Clinton in the polls since September 2015.
