Sanders reportedly texted his delegates imploring them to stop floor protests. Efforts to draft her for a White House run previous year fell flat, but she maintained her strong standing on the left, with many eagerly watching to see who she whether she would endorse Sanders. Some of his backers are reluctant to get behind Clinton, seeing her as a member of the Washington political elite who pays lip service to their goals of reining in Wall Street and eradicating income inequality.
Trump, at last week’s Republican convention, continued his call for a crackdown on illegal immigration and on Muslim immigrants, saying the former hurts economic opportunity of USA citizens, while Muslims pose a national security threat. He and others was particularly angry about emails released late last week that suggested Democratic party leaders favored Clinton.
Instead of focussing on the primary, Sanders urged Bernie supporters to use their passion toward improving the party.
But, Carney said, he will grit his teeth and vote for her.
“Brothers and sisters, this is the real world that we live in”, he said, adding: “Trump is a bully and a demagogue”. Most protests during the RNC were concentrated in a tight, 1.7-square mile zone downtown.
The scenes of booing at the convention in Philadelphia were a setback to Democratic officials’ attempts to present the gathering as a smoothly run show of party unity in contrast to the volatile campaign of Republican nominee Donald Trump. “It’s just more of the same”, she said.
Warren said Trump thinks he can win votes “by turning neighbor against neighbor” and by persuading voters that the source of their problems is “people who don’t look like you, or don’t talk like or don’t worship like you”. “Signs are fine. That’s part of the Democratic process”. She says Clinton is an untrustworthy politician who adjusts her positions based on what her corporate donors want.
And then there was Renee from Minnesota, who described herself as a “multi-generation Democrat” but wouldn’t give her last name. She marched from Camden, NJ, over the Ben Franklin Bridge to Philadelphia to show her support for Sanders.

Sanders, who won primary and caucus elections in 23 contests garnering almost 1,900 delegates, has endorsed Clinton, though he has vowed to take his campaign to the national convention. Even though Sanders endorsed Clinton, she credits him with creating a movement. “What we’ve been saying for months is obviously true: They had the finger on the scale of the campaign”, he said.
