‘Pokemon Go’ Could Generate Billions For Apple

Legendary, which is partnering with The Pokemon Co, will begin production next year for the movie, which will feature Detective Pikachu, according to a statement from the companies on Wednesday.
The smartphone app has now been launched in more than 40 countries, including the USA and much of Europe, but Japan – where Nintendo started the mythical creature franchise 20 years ago – was kept waiting.
Shares of Japan’s McDonald’s Holdings Co piggy-backed the Pokemon GO craze, rising 8 percent after TechCrunch reported on Tuesday the fast-food chain operator would become the game’s first sponsor.
“Well I suppose using the smartphone while walking is unsafe, and small kids could be taken away by suspicious people, but I think it’s alright as long as each individual stays careful”, said Mori, a Pokemon fan since he was 6-years old.
Brokerage firm Needham estimates that Apple could see additional high-margin revenue from the game nearing $3bn in the next two years.

But it still isn’t available in Japan, where the original Pokemon cartoon series was first created.
The game, which has been rolled out in 35 countries, is also available on Android devices.
Just days after the launch, police in the United States were issuing warnings after a dozen victims in Missouri were lured into armed robberies, and dozens more suffered minor injuries from tripping over while looking for Pokemon.
Takahashi said he was fascinated with the game and unhappy that it has been already released elsewhere but not in Japan, even though it is the birthplace of Pokemon.

The game is free to download and play, but extras to enhance the experience cost $1 or more.
