Von Miller expected to re-sign with Denver Broncos

But Miller is worth it. Von had to get fair value for his body of work with the organization, and this deal seems fair.

The deal had to get done as Miller threatened to sit out and not play if a long-term contract couldn’t get reached.

If you didn’t know it already, Von Miller is the face of the Denver Broncos.

Miller was in Utah on Friday for an appearance with Whitney Carson, his partner on “Dancing With The Stars, and Elway was overseas”.

Having Miller happy and back under contract is huge for a Denver team that won the Super Bowl a year ago on the back of the league’s best defense – and will likely need a similar defensive effort to win again in 2016 as the team faces uncertainty at quarterback.

Both the deal’s overall value and the guaranteed money are records for nonquarterbacks. The only player with more guaranteed money is Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, the league’s highest-paid player.

Miller was drafted out of Texas A&M by the Broncos in 2011 and signed a four-year $21 million rookie contract. “I’m thankful for everything that comes my way and proud to say I’m back on the green and white for a few more years”.

Berry was the NFL Comeback Player of the Year last season after being diagnosed in November 2014 with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The contract will pay Miller $114.5 million over six years, an average salary of $19.083 million per season.

And truth be told, had the Broncos not locked Miller up, it would have hurt them during future contract negotiations with their own free agents, and decreased the likelihood of them attracting big name players on the open market. But they asked for millions more in guarantees. Regardless, Elway dismissed the trade request and the sides ultimately agreed to the deal with a record $70 million guaranteed on Friday, which came hours before the NFL’s franchise tag signing deadline. Miller was unhappy that details of an offer he rejected in June were leaked to the media, and he responded by saying he would refuse to play under the franchise tag, a threat that represented his only real leverage.

His sack and forced fumble on Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in Super Bowl 50 created the Broncos’ first touchdown, as Denver’s Malik Jackson recovered the fumble in the Panthers’ end zone.
