Democrat convention hit by protests

Bernie Sanders supporters, incensed at fresh revelations of intra-Party “Shenanigans”, surrounded an entrance to the Democratic National Convention on Day One, Monday, where they pounded on a metal divider and shouted at arriving delegates while also continuing to scoff at calls for Party unity behind its presumptive nominee.

“The Bernie Sanders voters are angry about the DNC trying to control events”, said John Dickerson, host of “Face the Nation”.

It will be up to Sanders himself in his speech on Monday night to help mend the party divide and get supporters on board with Clinton’s message, Dickerson continued. They want to sow seeds of doubt about Donald Trump. Bernie addressed his delegates earlier in the day and was meet was a chorus of “boos” when he encouraged them to vote for Hillary Clinton for president. Team Sanders we did AMAZING WORK.

Still, Sanders fans stood on the floor Monday night during his speech, rapt, their admiration for the man behind a movement they hope will continue, even as they disagree. Wasserman Shultz was booed by members of her own Florida delegation on Monday after the emails appears to validate long-standing claims by the Sanders camp that the party had rigged the election against their candidate.

Sanders was among those due to speak on the first evening of the convention.

“I was here for 2012 in Charlotte, had a great time, great convention”, said Lane Lewis, the chair of the Harris County Democratic Party.

“If (Clinton) wanted to hire her, she could have waited weeks”, Cotham said. They blamed Clinton for the rise of ISIS. Forty-one people were treated for heat-related issues or other injuries, including from falls, during protests, fire officials said.

First Lady Michelle Obama took a swipe at Trump, saying the Republican nominee is not qualified to be president.

“This election and every election is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives”, she said.

While Sanders had endorsed Clinton previously, his remarks Monday marked his most vigorous and detailed praise of her qualifications for the presidency.

Cotham, a political veteran, said her worry now is that a public role for Wasserman Schultz at the convention will spark protests and boos by many Sanders delegates – all on national TV. Behind the scenes, Sanders and his campaign tried to persuade his delegates not to disrupt the proceedings.

Ross said that Sunday’s marches involving thousands of people were “like a scrimmage game” and that while the protests will only get bigger, he was pleased with how respectful the demonstrators have been.

Trump dismissed the suggestion in a tweet: “The joke in town is that Russian Federation leaked the disastrous DNC emails, which should never have been written (stupid), because Putin likes me”. “And I intend to do everything that I can to see that he is defeated”.

The frantic attempts to cool tempers in the oppressive Philadelphia heat follows the publication of leaked emails that forced the resignation of DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz on the eve of the convention. The hacked DNC emails fed the suspicion of Sanders’ supporters and sapped Clinton’s campaign of some of its energy following a well-received rollout Saturday of her running mate, Virginia Sen. Others held “Bernie or Bust” signs. That’s what Donald Trump wants. “I understand that many people here in this convention hall and around the country are disappointed about the final results of the nominating process”.
