With the Democratic National Convention about to get underway in Philadelphia, there was widespread belief that it would be best for Wasserman Schultz to exit swiftly in order to help the party move on as fast as possible from the unflattering distraction.

The Democratic National Committee is offering its “deep and honest apology” to Bernie Sanders, his supporters and the entire party for what it calls “the inexcusable remarks made over email”.

On the eve of the national convention’s opening, the 19,000 hacked emails published Sunday by WikiLeaks appeared to show top officials at the supposedly neutral DNC working to tip the scales toward Clinton.

“It looks a little like Debbie is getting a payback for her helping get Hillary Clinton elected”. Nearby, Caitlin Codoni of Seattle sported a pair of novelty socks with Sanders’ likeness, but she expressed disgust at the election process. The smoldering fire of their distrust for her campaign and party leaders were fanned anew by the release of emails sent by Democratic National Committee officials.

Democrats seemed like they were having an easier time keeping a lid on their party’s angst.

Advance political reporter Rachel Shapiro is at the convention, and she’ll be covering the action in Philadelphia, with frequent updates. Much of the blame for the state of the DNC ultimately resides with the head of the party, President Obama, who has long practiced disregard for the organization, believing it worked against him when he was challenging Clinton in 2008.

“I will literally boo anytime she’s involved in the convention because she shouldn’t be involved”, Riker added.

Martin Feigenbaum, the other GOP primary candidate, on Monday said, “I think for the first time she has a chance to lose this election, even though it’s in one of the bluest districts in the country”.

DNC Vice Chair Donna Brazile will take over as interim chair of the party after Wasserman Schultz steps down.

Fellow Democrats criticized Wasserman Schultz – Ed Rendell has said he wouldn’t have let her speak at the convention. In an email earlier in the day to delegates, he said the credibility of his movement would be “damaged by booing, turning of backs, walking out or other similar displays”.

“We don’t have information right now about that, but what we have is a kind of bromance going on between Vladimir Putin and Trump which is distinct from this leak”, Clinton adviser John Podesta said in an MSNBC interview. There were also emails about when the Sanders campaign improperly accessed Clinton campaign’s proprietary voter information that was housed at the DNC.

Trump, reviled by many liberals, could be an especially powerful force pushing Sanders supporters toward Clinton. “I think the president needs to step in because it’s clear it’s corrupt, and that’s unfair to the American people”.
