Twins C Kurt Suzuki leaves after taking foul off mask

BOSTON (AP) – The Minnesota Twins have seen their share of rough innings this season, so manager Paul Molitor knew exactly what the fifth felt like. The Twins evened it up Friday with a 2-1 victory.

– Hembree let the Twins pull ahead 10-8 with a double to Nunez, but he struck out right fielder Robbie Grossman to end the frame. On Saturday, the Twins roared back with five runs in the seventh inning en route to an 11-9 win.

The southpaw’s last against the Red Sox was one of his best, giving up two earned runs and four total on nine hits and a walk over five innings in a no-decision last June 4 at Fenway. It was Pedroia’s 10th homer. Brandon Kintzler worked the ninth for his eighth save.

Minnesota blew an early three-run lead before battling back to tie the game and take the lead with a five-run seventh. Max Kepler had an RBI triple and scored on Kennys Vargas’ double.

Swirling winds from a passing storm halted play throughout the first inning as sand and debris whipped around the field.

“One of those insane nights in Boston”, Molitor said. There are reports circulating around the league that the Red Sox are still interested in buying on pitching, both of the starting and relief variety, leading up to the July 31 deadline.

Suzuki was 1-for-1 with an RBI double in his lone at-bat before departing.

Byron Buxton’s bunt single plated Suzuki, and Buxton later scored on Nunez’s single. Nolasco later walked Ortiz on a wild pitch, allowing Brock Holt to scamper in from third.

Bradley’s run-scoring double made it 7-4. However, Centeno proceeded to continue his superb day at the plate with a two-out RBI single, giving Buxton the opportunity to deliver with the tying run on third.

Speaking prior to Saturday’s game, the Red Sox’ right fielder indicated that though the pain had been somewhat persistent, as of recently, the treatment he has been receiving has been beneficial in his recovery. He received stitches and did not suffer a concussion.

“You’ve got a chance to come in here and potentially beat a team that’s been playing good – three out of four”, Molitor said.

Boston homered in 22 straight games from April 29 to May 22. An MRI exam revealed swelling, but no significant damage.

“I always want to be in there in play”, Betts said.

“Structurally everything is perfectly fine, just fluid around there, that’s all”. Mauer is 6-for-34 versus Price.

The 32-year-old Suzuki had just returned to the lineup after resting Friday. “Farrell said closer Craig Kimbrel could have his first bullpen session “(Sunday) or Monday” and could be “very close” to a simulated game.
