“Trump is a bully and a demagogue”.

Sanders supporters also interrupted a delegate breakfast.

Outside the convention, more than 50 protesters, many of whom were Sanders supporters, have been arrested.

However, beyond all of the worries for the Clinton campaign is the problem that Sanders’ supporters continue to have with the Democratic Party.

“This is life-or-death for many of us, as a queer woman, this is life-or-death”, Ziegler said. “They’ve made zero effort to reach out to us. It is not moral, it is not sustainable that the top 1 percent owns more than the bottom 90 percent”, he said, while at the same time praising Clinton for her position on minimum wage.

After a day marked by protests and disorder, the National Democratic Convention officially opened Monday in Philadelphia with supporters of the leading Democratic candidates trading cheers and jeers. He was on hand for the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 2008, and attended President Obama’s State of the Union address in 2012.

Whatever the origins, Wasserman Schultz bore the brunt of the political fallout. “And ever since we started receiving this kind of information especially from WikiLeaks, and everything that we learn about Hillary’s past, we decided we want to go with someone we trust and know is going to get us there, and in a truthful manner”. “It’s of utmost importance you explain this to your delegations”, Sanders said in a text message sent to his floor supporters in Philadelphia. Wasserman Schultz’s resignation came after a controversial series of private emails were hacked and released that showed Democratic party officials may have favored Clinton in the race to become the party’s nominee. “It’s about who we are as a people”. But, as a result of this disclosure Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign.

“Make no mistake. We have made history”, Sanders told the crowd, stressing that their progress would be lost if Clinton doesn’t win. “That’s where I think the focus has got to be”. “It’s not about the progressive movement”. They believe that the reaction from Sanders’ camp is just a symptom of the 2016 election being a passionate affair and that the party, after all said and done, is a united front. “That’s the only way that we’re gonna be able to move forward”. It is about transforming America and continuing the fight for economic, social, racial and environmental justice.

“It had to be her”, she said. “Some of our nurses aren’t ready yet (to endorse Clinton)”.

To make the case for party unity, elected leaders and hand-picked Sanders delegates kicked off the convention and talked about a need to elect Clinton in November to stop Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“This negative dribble that has come out of the Republican convention, I think it’s embarrassing for our country”.

Day one. Michelle Obama is expected to speak during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Monday, July 25, around 10 p.m. ET.

All of this coming after Russian hackers stole DNC emails that showed party leaders working against Sanders.

Sanders has endorsed Clinton, so a roll call could be a way of showing his strength, and letting his supporters have the floor and a vote.
