She resigns amid pressure from Sanders supporters, in an apparent effort by Washington Democrats to keep the controversy from marring the four-day convention.

There is little suspense but still some excitement going into the Democratic National Convention that starts Monday.

Following Sunday’s announcement, Clinton praised Schultz in a statement, and promised to campaign for her reelection in Florida.

On Friday, some 19,000 emails were published on the website Wikileaks that suggested the Democratic National Committee played favourites during the primary, when Bernie Sanders fell short against Hillary Clinton.

“For the last eight years, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has had my back”, Obama said in a statement Sunday.

Sanders, who has repeatedly called on Schultz to step down, reiterated his call in an interview with CNN, saying he believed that the DNC was supporting Hillary Clinton and “at opposition to our campaign all along”. He cited Trump’s statements about the the relevance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance and his questioning of whether the USA should leap to the defense of allies who haven’t fulfilled commitments on defense spending. “It’s time to end her political career for good”. In it, the party’s chief financial officer – an ally of Wasserman Schultz – indicated interest in raising questions about Sanders’ lack of active involvement with his Jewish heritage.

A turning point may come Monday night when Sanders, who fought Clinton to the end during the primary, delivers an address to delegates and a national television audience.

“I am going to be respectful of you and I want you to be respectful of me”, Fudge said after being interrupted beforehand.

That wish was granted after she was booed and heckled by her fellow Floridians.

Despite her official capacity as party chair still being in effect throughout the convention, Schultz will not deliver any major speeches or oversee any proceedings during the convention, which begins on Monday.

“You will see me every day between now and November 8 on the campaign trail”, Wasserman Schultz said, over shouts.

Obama added: “We know she will continue to serve our country as a member of Congress from Florida and she will always be our dear friend”. “The Florida that we know is united”. Wasserman Schultz was reportedly in Giffords’ hospital room when she first woke up. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, was “right” to quit, Rep.

“Our party’s coming together here to unify to elect Hillary Clinton and defeat Donald Trump”, Mook said. She had 602, versus the 48 pledged to her main Democratic opponent. Debbie Wasserman Schultz would preside over convention proceedings this week.

Wasserman Schultz is set to speak again during the DNC in front of a much larger crowd, which will make for much louder boos.

“We only have three months”, Segerblom said. “Florida loves to be the center of attention, regardless of the context”.
