Democratic National Convention Kicks off in Philadelphia

Another series of protests and rallies was planned for Tuesday, the anger reflecting the rift inside the Democratic Party and the convention hall itself between Sanders’ supporters and Clinton’s.

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has urged Democrats to put Hillary Clinton in the White House.

Liberal favorite Elizabeth Warren, senator from MA, and Sanders himself also gave the party something to cheer about Monday night.

First Lady Michelle Obama offered an emotional endorsement of Hillary Clinton on Monday, hailing the power that having a first female president would bring America and pouring scorn on Donald Trump.

Michelle Obama’s speech momentarily transcended the divisions among delegates and elevated Clinton by focusing on her accomplishments during her decades-long career.

“We’re like a bridge over troubled water”, he said, and they went on to introduce singer Paul Simon.

“And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States”. But Sanders did his best to pull them together and throw his considerable weight behind Hillary Clinton. “She stole the election!” someone else shouted.

In the convention’s first hours, party officials struggled to carry out business as angry Sanders supporters roared their disapproval, drawing a deafening response from Clinton delegates.

Behind the scenes, Sanders and his campaign pleaded with his delegates not to disrupt the proceedings. That’s what the corporate media wants.

Warren said Trump knows that the American people are angry.

Several speakers pleaded for peace between the Democratic factions.

Among a roster of speakers that included A-list celebrities, the widow of a veteran who said she was defrauded by Trump University and an impassioned Sen.

“Sad to watch Bernie Sanders abandon his revolution”. By turning neighbour against neighbour, by persuading you that the real problem in America is your fellow Americans.

Trump gloated at the Democrats’ opening day disorder.

“Wow, the Republican Convention went so smoothly compared to the Dems total mess”, he wrote on Twitter.

The platform was ratified at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) which kicked off on Monday.

Former Democratic national committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz did not have the opportunity to gavel in the convention.

Sanders’ supporters have expressed disgust with party leaders after leaked emails suggested the party brass favored Clinton over the Vermont senator during the hard-fought primary race. Sanders said he’s against it primarily because it will allow corporations to move jobs overseas. If she lacked the first lady’s intensity, she made a good connection between her and Sanders – a quieter verse before the big, crashing last chorus. If Clinton were to be nominated by acclamation, that could lead to yet more jeering and booing.

Before telling the convention that Clinton “will make an outstanding president”, Sanders seemed genuine in celebrating their relationship as a professional success.

Melissa Arab, 44 of Shelby Township, Michigan, said she “wouldn’t vote for her for dog catcher”.

“Democracy is messy, people have disputes with how the DNC has managed this campaign”, Mullen said.

That’s what’s happening today – now, on to the morning press briefing at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where the Rev Leah D Daughtry, the DNC’s CEO, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, Clinton press secretary Brian Fallon and DNC communications CEO April Mellody will brief the press on the news of the day, and the plans for the second day of the convention.

At the moment, he said he does not trust Clinton to follow through on changes to the platform and had wanted a more progressive VP nominee. Republicans dismissed the suggestion as absurd.
