Day off for south Indians as new film sparks frenzy

The craze of Rajinikanth is known to everyone and the same was witnessed on the first day first show of the film, Kabali.

Fans of the wildly popular Indian film star Rajinikanth queued overnight for a 4am screening of his new movie yesterday in the southern city of Chennai, where many companies abandoned hope of staff coming to work and closed for the day. The film gathered appreciation not only in India but also in overseas, especially in US, France, UAE, Singapore, etc. Thalayivaa’s latest stint has spurred up the nation doing huge business at BO.

Kabali may very well be the most anticipated film of the year. Workers given days off, jumbo jets repainted and prayer ceremonies held – all in honour of a film. The premier of Kabali was held in numerous countries like Malaysia, USA and morning shows were held in Tamilnadu and Bangalore too. Over the weekend, the film is expected to surpass the total collections of some of the big films.

Made on a budget of 1 billion rupees, or $14,892,126 United States dollars, “Kabali” is expected to earn double the amount within the first three days of its release. “The atmosphere inside the cinema hall is electrifying”, grinned Nambi Rajan, the owner of Aurora Theatre, which created history by hosting six full-house shows of “Kabali” starting 6 a.m. today. According to distribution company CineGalaxy Inc, the Rajinikanth-starrer has collected $2 million (Rs 13.3 crore) from just the premiere shows in the United States and Canada. Yes, it did.
