Star Trek knocks Pets from U.S. box office top spot
As readers of the Gadget Helpline will know we have been eagerly pursuing any info or rumours surrounding the secretive new Star Trek series set for launch on CBS All Access and Netflix in 2017. The opening weekend for “Star Trek Beyond” is still seen as a positive development, however. That’s not all that is happening in the world of Trek, and that’s why Star Trek has launched its first official Trek podcast: Engage with Jordan Hoffman.

The Star Trek series collection includes Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise. I’ll say this, when I saw that first episode in 1966, I had no idea I’d still be watching Star Trek in 2016.
Star Trek Beyond easily cruised to the top spot in the weekend box office, taking home $59.6 million in its opening weekend.
To establish this even more, the film then has Spock (Zachary Quinto) hearing that his future self of Ambassador Spock has passed away. He also delivers a brief and touching tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy. Star Trek Beyond feels classic and fresh, leaving room for further expansion. One superfan of the show and the former portrayer of Lieutenant Sulu, George Takei, who also is gay in real life does not like it at all. The makers of the film are happy as per the film give them more and better than their expectations. ‘Star Trek Beyond, ‘ $59.6 mn ($30 mn international); 2. The film is expected to do powerful business internationally, especially with Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba Group committing to invest in the picture.

The choice had generated controversy before the film’s premiere, but not of the anti-LGBT variety. With weird music and odd tonal vibes coming off of every trailer or tv spot for this film, I began to get a little anxious that this third instalment would be a huge disappointment. The crew soon find themselves stranded on an alien planet and at the mercy of Kraal – an alien pirate played by Idris Elba – who is seeking revenge on the Federation. Normally, the focus is on the differences between Kirk and Spock, but it is Spock and Bones that have the greater schism, and they get to work together.
