Still reeling from the revelations of an email leak, supporters of Sen. Leslie Lee is no “Bernie Bro”-he’s the African-American Sanders activist who coined the hashtag #BernieMadeMeWhite”.
It was no surprise, then, that the night belonged to Sanders, who came onstage to rapturous applause. Russell argued that Sanders supporters like her would have a voice in a Clinton administration, and that she would work to elect the former secretary of state. Clinton promised a stark contrast to the GOP gathering, saying she planned to highlight “success stories” and flesh out details of her proposed policies.
During Sander’s speech which closed the day’s prime time events, Sanders said Hillary Clinton will make – in his words – “an outstanding president”. The choice is not even close.
The emails were even discussing Sanders’ religion! Her State Department emails?
Democratic party heavyweights Michelle Obama and Bernie Sanders have offered contrasting heartfelt and hard-headed endorsements of Hillary Clinton, imploring a riven and feisty party convention to unite to stop Donald Trump.
“Bernie, I honestly mostly felt for him”, Morelli said. And together with Hillary Clinton as our president – We.
Mrs. Obama was one of the night’s standouts. The chants of “Bernie!” That’s what Clinton did on Obama’s behalf in 2008 to indicate their rivalry was truly over. Bedraggled, they hightailed it up Broad Street in twos and threes, The drenched members of the Revolutionary Communist Party, marching single file, handed out fliers that disintegrated in the rain.
“If you don’t believe this election is important, if you think you can sit it out, take a moment to think about the Supreme Court justices that Donald Trump would nominate and what that would mean to civil liberties, equal rights and the future of our country”, Sanders said. As the convention was gaveled into session, delegates for Sen.
Sanders’ supporters arrived at the convention infuriated over leaked emails showing the Democratic National Committee had favored Clinton in the primaries, despite vows of neutrality.
ME state Rep. Diane Russell – a Sanders supporter – told delegates they should take comfort in rule changes that diminish the impact of superdelegates in the primaries, which gave Clinton a huge edge throughout the primaries. Referring to Trump’s penchant for tweeting, she said of the presidency: “It can not be boiled down to 140 characters”. Plus, Sanders had gotten Democrats to embrace progressive ideas like universal health care and college education.
What was expected to be a tightly orchestrated convention, run with all the professionalism and experience that were lacking at Trump’s often-chaotic affair in OH, instead showed its rough edges in the early going, starting with chants of “Bernie” during the opening invocation and boos at numerous mentions of Clinton’s name.
The move comes as renewed divisions surface in the party in the wake of revelations DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was active behind the scenes, tipping the scales of primary season in Clinton’s favour.
Alexis Edelstein, a 39-year-old from Playa Del Rey, began chanting “Lock her up!” repeatedly, and a small circle formed around him with Clinton allies and detractors.
Silverman finished and stood next to a stunned Franken. I just hope Hillary is grateful. At one point the comedian, who appeared with Minnesota’s Sen. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker’s speech was a little like that tonight. “We double down on them”, he said.
Clinton campaign officials blamed the hack, which is now being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, on Russian military intelligence agencies. But that was not to last.
When the Rev. Cynthia Hale mentioned Hillary Clinton for the first time during the invocation, the floor erupted into boos.
Many of them were even seen wiping tears. The hope was that these speakers and Sanders himself would win over the room for Hillary, and head off any embarrassing protests for the rest of the proceedings. And nearby, Sanders delegates wore blue tape over their mouths in protest.
“It’s of utmost importance you explain this to your delegations”, the text read. Sanders should say, vote to clean up this party!
Earlier in the day, Sanders had a meeting with his delegates in which he delivered a similar message. “She stole the election!” someone else shouted. “We are all Democrats and we need to act like it”. “It also calls for strong opposition to job-killing free trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership”, he said.
The Vermont senator opened by appealing directly to his supporters.

Compared to the monochromatic hatefest on display in Cleveland the week before, the fact that the Democrats “look like America” can be attractive to millions. And she called for Sanders supporters to get in line with Clinton.
