Inside the convention hall, a long list of speakers were lining up to take the stage to support Clinton’s nomination.

Mrs Clinton’s nomination comes after Senator Bernie Sanders’ supporters disrupted the first day of the convention with boos and jeers.

But the job of the convention now is to capitalise on the historic nature of Clinton’s win – as the self-described glass ceiling cracker, reaching higher than a woman has gone before in U.S. politics. Tim Kaine, Clinton’s new running mate. She added, “The idea that I’m going to be here when the first woman president is nominated is overwhelming”. He was a delegate who helped make Barack Obama the first black nominee for president at the 2008 convention.
During the campaign, Sanders regularly whipped up the crowd at his rallies with broadsides against policies that Bill Clinton championed two decades ago.

The move was very much a ceremonial one: Clinton had already secured the number of delegates during the roll call to clinch the party’s nomination.
