Still, a majority of those in the crowd cheered for the presumptive nominee when she was mentioned.

On Monday, some Sanders delegates appeared to be looking for a fight.

Tensions between Sanders delegates and Clinton supporters were palpable throughout the day, according to Shelia Smoot, a Clinton delegate from Birmingham, Alabama. Back then, the roll call was stopped when it came to NY, and Clinton, after her long and divisive primary against Obama, called for a vote for Obama by acclamation.

DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned on Sunday as pressure built on the party to address the scandal.

What was expected to be a tightly orchestrated convention, run with all the professionalism and experience that were lacking at Trump’s often-chaotic affair in OH, instead showed its rough edges in the early going, starting with chants of “Bernie” during the opening invocation and boos at numerous mentions of Clinton’s name.

“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, we don’t stoop to their level, ‘ she said”. She was among those at an afternoon rally of around 1,900 in Philadelphia Monday who participated in a chorus of boos when the Vermont senator praised Clinton.

Many of those delegates were wondering what’s next for Sanders and the loyal liberal movement he built during the past year.

“Another example was the TPP [Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal], and Hillary, who once called the TPP the “gold standard of deals”, did recently come out against it”, she said, but she added that opposition to the trade deal had not made it into the Democratic platform.

Booker, a senator from New Jersey and also a rising star within the party, delivered a sweeping oratory that harkened back to the nation’s founding, ending with him leading the crowd in a chant: “We”. Sanders endorsed Clinton for president, running down the lists of her qualifications as a sea of “Bernie” and “I’m with her” signs populated the arena floor. “I was 11”, Amaru said. “Nobody wants to lose and right now it feels as if we’ve lost”. She said the presidency couldn’t be “boiled down to 140 characters” and that “you can’t have a thin skin”.

The FBI has confirmed that it is investigating the leak.

But later, in front of a national audience, Sanders also publicly lauded their larger cause. Fudge, the acting chair of the party, was among those booed as she greeted the delegates.

“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters, two attractive and intelligent black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn”, Obama said.

Trump gloated at the Democrats’ opening day disorder. “The goal for the Democratic Party is to make sure Trump and that philosophy has no place in this country – ever”. But the real show will be watching the candidates square off head to head.
