At the moment, the Red Bulls are sitting on second place in the Eastern Conference of the MLS and are only eight points behind leaders DC United in the standings.
The Red Bulls carried those two goals through the final 10 minutes of the game to secure a 2-0 victory.
As close as the match was, NYCFC looked just a bit out paced by the Red Bulls. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw against Montreal Impact.
The crowd was certainly provoked. Audio from the scene included chants consistent with soccer supporters groups, and the group quickly dispersed when police arrived.
Bryan R. Smith Felipe scores in the game. Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring with his tenth goal of the season, four of those coming against the crosstown rivals. It was Kljestan’s pass that freed left back Kemar Lawrence to assist Wright-Phillips’ 10th goal of the season – and his fourth against NYCFC. Mena, a Colombian who was acquired less than a month ago, has been responsible for a handful of goals already in his short stint as NYCFC’s centerback. The midfielder dribbled unmarked in the box, taking his time to lineup a shot that creeped in the inside post. Both were second-half subs.
