‘True Detective’ Season 2 Finale: Was It “Enormously Satisfying”?
For those still wondering what the second season of “True Detective” was about, the snarky answer would be, “It was about 8 ½ hours”.

After his death, the diamonds were found in Caspere’s safe deposit box, and along with a hard drive that was apparently stolen after the Ray Velcoro was shot in episode 2, they serve as key pieces of evidence – not only for determining who killed Caspere, but also in the effort to shed some light on the shady cabal that runs Vinci. In the finale, his one-on-one scenes with Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell were high points in an otherwise muddled plot. “I was proud that he thought I was pretty”. After seven weeks of controversy, conspiracy and interrogation, it seems like we’re not much closer to an answer heading into the finale.
After leaving the hideout, Ray meets with Frank (Vince Vaughn) to relay information from the previous night. She revealed that the man didn’t force her to go with him. She responds, “I always have a choice and I’m not going anywhere”. I think he’s an enormously talented writer, and I have already called him and said, ‘Nic, if you want to do a Season 3, let’s start talking.’. He tried to push her away, but she wasn’t buying it. When he threw his ring out the door, she did the same. He tells her to stop reading into things. They made a plan – she would wear a white dress, and he would wear a white suit. He says, “I have a play”. The problems everyone is moaning at in Season Two were present in Season One, they just had shinier packaging then. He eventually meets up with the sender after calling Ray to warn him that Ray is putting himself in danger. They kiss.
So why didn’t I turn off “The Newsroom” and watch “The Wire”, an acclaimed show I’ve never made time for? After rescuing Ray’s bacon again in the confused shoot out at the train station, Ani gets shut out of the action. Whereas Ani helps Laura depart city, Ray calls Frank to plan an ambush on the assembly. “The tits?”
Frank and Ray crash the cabin money trade and – with a bit assist from some tear fuel – the duo kill McCandless (Jon Lindstrom) and Osip, earlier than making off with tens of millions of dollars. They find a huge stack of cash on the table inside and fill their bags up with it. Ultimately, Burris and his males catch as much as Ray and shoot him lifeless. A van followers after him.
Ballers (HBO, Sunday 10:30 p.m.) – Reggie goes full Nicholas Sparks to get out of the dog house, while Toby Ziegler makes The Rock and Rob Corddry clean up the collateral damage created by what was essentially the 2005 Vikings boat party. That’ll teach you to distrust the abusive alcoholic murderer who was just looking out for you, lady! He says he’ll be right on her heels.
Frank and Velcoro both die in scenes showcasing some serious testosterone.
Ray tries to hide in the forest, but two gunmen find him.
It was a matter of time before Ani got with Ray.
When Ani said goodbye to her dad and sister it showed us just how detached she is from her family. He sees Jordan in a white dress. But TV critics, next time the rest of your colleagues are heaping praise on someone or something and a tiny part of you is doubting – don’t apologize for that part. But it may be good enough to stand on its own as a secret treasure, shared by people who see its unique qualities and begin to treasure it in spite of-or is it because of-its lack of widespread popularity. At least Jordan doesnt have to put up with his shit anymore.
So, True Detective Season 2, for the moments of greatness you gave us this year, we salute you.
Uh-oh! What’s happened to Paul? Ani narrates, “These facts were paid for in blood”. But the show tipped its hand at its masculine agenda when it placed more emphasis on Ray’s virility (he fathered two sons, don’t you know!), than it did the resolution of Ani’s journey. “Because we deserve a better world”.

It has all the flawless ingredients, good characters (maybe a few too many central ones) and intrigue – but the way the plot has been fleshed out to include so many different factors really takes away from what should and could be a great show.
