Will Kaine boost Clinton ticket?

The hacked DNC emails fed the suspicion of Sanders’ supporters and sapped Clinton’s campaign of some of its energy following a well-received rollout Sunday of her running mate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, have conducted since Clinton introduced Kaine on Saturday in Miami.

As Chuck Todd noted Sunday on Meet the Press, some Sanders supporters were disappointed by the pick, questioning Kaine’s progressive bona fides. Moments after Clinton claimed the nomination, a group of supporters exited the convention and headed to a media tent for what they said was a peaceful demonstration protesting being shut out of the Democratic Party. Trump also mocked Sanders for endorsing Clinton, and urging his supporters to get behind her at the convention. And the people who were speaking were painting a picture of our country that I did not recognize – you know, negative, scapegoating, fear, bigotry, smears.

On the tour this week, Clinton and Kaine will likely argue that a Trump-Pence administration would be unsafe to working class voters.

Neville Blakemore, a superdelegate from Louisville, said Kaine’s experience as an elected official at the city, state and federal level makes him more likely to relate to voters.

And in a recent C-SPAN interview he said: “I do what I do for spiritual reasons”.

Luckily Clinton has Elizabeth Warren for those times when she really needs to sling some mud. But to your average swing voter who thinks the email server thing is a legitimate issue, this sounds a lot like Clinton blowing it off. “And I’m not going to engage in that kind of insult fest that he seems to thrive on”, Clinton said.

Jonathan George, a 21-year-old Clinton delegate from Lexington and an intern with the Virginia Democracy Party, called Kaine a great choice, in part because he’s fluent in Spanish from his time as a missionary in Honduras. Tim Kaine for her running mate, Hillary Clinton has signaled she is interested in moving more toward the Democratic middle – rather than its far left where she was pulled during the primaries. I often feel like there’s the Hillary standard and then there’s the standard for everybody else.

“Just saw crooked Hillary and Tim Kaine together. It gets a little heat, and they fire her”, Trump said.

Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta added fuel to the debate Monday, saying there was “a kind of bromance going on” between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. “I wouldn’t vote for her for dog catcher”, said Melissa Arab of Shelby Township, Michigan.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said the move drew a sharp contrast with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Gov. Mike Pence, who he said were running on a platform of “discrimination and dysfunction”.
