Chris Sale: White Sox put business ahead of winning
By now, the story; nay, legend; of Chris Sale hacking all of his team’s throwback jerseys to pieces with a knife is well known. Install on iOS or Android.

The Chicago White Sox were set to wear throwback uniforms.
The White Sox have suspended pitcher Chris Sale for 5 days without pay for destroying collared throwback uniforms the team was scheduled to wear Saturday.
Sale spoke with MLB.com on Monday, his first public comments since the incident.
“I’ve seen a lot of insane things happen in the game, but sometimes emotions get the best of us”, he said. “When I can’t or don’t do that, yeah, I have disappointment in myself for not being there for my guys”. ‘At that point last night, I think Chris stood by his actions’. He continued, “Do I regret saying business should not be first before winning?”
“I’ve seen a lot of insane things happen in the game, but sometimes emotions get the best of us”, he said.
“If the players don’t feel comfortable 100% about what we are doing to win the game, and we have an easy fix – it was as easy as hanging up another jersey and everyone was fine”.
Hahn said Sale has to stay away from the team during the suspension, but will be eligible to return for Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
The White Sox relief corps could certainly use a day off or at the least, as Jennings said, a blowout win where some of those young arms – Fulmer, Michael Ynoa and Tommy Kahnle – could polish off some low-pressure innings.
The pitcher publicly called out Kenny Williams, the team’s executive vice president, after Adam LaRoche quit the team because his son was no longer allowed to visit the clubhouse everyday.
“Obviously we’re all extremely disappointed that we have to deal with this issue at this time both from the standpoint of the club as well as Chris’ perspective”, said general manager Rick Hahn. “It’s insane. I don’t think I’m that bad”.
The White Sox game on Saturday was suspended after a second rain delay in the ninth inning.

With first reports indicating Sale was scratched due to “illness”, the baseball world assumed Sale had been, or was close to, being traded because a scratch that close to a start of a game is not a normal for one of baseball’s premier pitchers, especially at this time of year. “That’s get ready to play baseball and put everything I got into winning that game”, Sale told the website. I’m glad we got a win. “I don’t know”, Hanh remarked, continuing that Sale may have destroyed the jerseys simply because he is a man of great passion; a quality that could really help him in the final months of the season. When he saw that they were laid out for the team to wear on Saturday, he snapped and grabbed the scissors. Starter Matt Boyd gave up three runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings, and the Tigers came up short after getting a break by not facing the 14-game victor Sale.
