As Bernie Sanders bellowed out a request for delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia to appoint Hillary Clinton the party’s official presidential nominee, almost half of the OR delegation braced itself to do just the opposite.
Detractors view her as too cosy with the establishment and say she carries political baggage dating back to the start of Bill Clinton’s first White House term in the 1990s. In case anyone missed it, thousands of printed signs reading “Change Maker” instantly popped up on the convention floor.
Clinton has made gun safety a foundation of her presidential campaign, vowing to push for expanded criminal background checks and a renewal of a ban on assault weapons.
Even Sanders was booed at an event Monday, when he told supporters it was in the country’s best interest to elect Clinton president. “Because earlier today, you nominated the real one”.
The former president went year-by-year detailing his budding relationship with Hillary Clinton and the work she was doing at the time.
Supporters and delegates of former Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders walk out after Hillary Clinton was nominated during the second day at the Democratic National Convention. She leads a party still grappling with divisions.
History was made Tuesday night in Philadelphia where Hillary Rodham Clinton officially won the Democratic nomination for president. Trump cheered the disruptions from the campaign trail.
The final ten to twelve minutes of the speech was devoted to Hillary’s own career in politics, first as a Senator and later as Secretary of State.
Many voters have questions about her character and trustworthiness, suggesting she has used her access to power to her personal advantage.
Bill Clinton spoke after three hours of testimonials from politicians, advocates, celebrities and citizens who argued otherwise.
He focused also on the birth of their daughter Chelsea, and when he and Hillary took her to college to college. This time, Clinton was acting as a character witness for his wife.
Public polls consistently show that a majority of Americans do not believe she is honest and trustworthy.
The stakes for him are particularly high following his much-criticized decision to meet privately with Attorney General Loretta Lynch in the middle of the FBI’s investigation into his wife’s email use at the State Department.
Interruptions from protesters, heard frequently the night before, were absent during Bill Clinton’s remarks.

The symbolic roll call was packed with extra emotion over Clinton’s historic achievement. U.S. women got the right to vote in 1920 after ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
