According to reports, a chopper is reported to have hoovered over the Indian territory for almost five minutes before it disappeared and flew back. The Chinese troops claimed that it was their land.
In the past, Chinese troops have been known to cross over and write “China” on rocks in the Chamoli district. “Our border area has been peaceful so far and since the beginning we have demanded to increase vigilance”.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that the matter would be investigated as it have to be checked whether the incident was intrusion or not.
Chinese side had sent in a delegation on April 19, 1958 for negotiations with their Indian counterparts and both sides had agreed not to send troops into the area but had avoided a discussion on final settlement of the Barahoti ground. According to reports, around 250 Chinese troops transgressed to the Indian side in the Yangtse sector, approximately 650 metres east of Shankar Tiki, an area where Indian soldiers are stationed in a sizeable number. “We want to define LoC, but China is not cooperating”, he said. After a face-off that lasted about an hour, both sides pulled back. “Such transgressions have also occurred in the general area of Chumar, However, no incursion into the Indian territory by China has taken place”.
