Injured Pepe set to miss Real’s La Liga opener

It’s true that Benzema, Ronaldo, Ramos and Pepe are out, but Real Madrid should still be able to beat Valerenga comfortably without those players.

Real are aiming to rebound under new coach Rafa Benitez after failing to secure a major trophy last season, which led to the sacking of former boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid would struggle to complete the signing of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea if they were not to offload Karim Benzema this summer, according to Spanish publication AS.

Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has refused to rule out further arrivals at the Bernabeu this summer, reports the Daily Express.

Benitez told his pre-match press conference: “Cristiano has a problem in his lower back and has been working with the physios”.

“He should be okay next week and I don’t think he’ll have any problems playing the opening game against Sporting”.

We have two injuries to Pepe and Karim [Benzema].

“The pre-season has been very positive”.

The 32-year-old Portuguese global underwent tests after he was substituted just 15 minutes into Real’s 1-0 loss against Bayern Munich in a friendly on Wednesday due to an apparent thigh muscle problem.

With the season fast approaching its start, it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid cope with the absence of the Frenchman from their starting line-up.
