“Who would’ve believed that when we started this journey on June 16th last year, we, and I say “we”, because we are a team, would have received nearly 14 million votes, the most in the history of the Republican party and that the Republican party would get 60 percent more votes than it received eight years ago, who would’ve believed this, who would’ve believed this”, Trump said.

Burlison said Trump seemed to successfully upstage Cruz when he walked into the convention arena near the end of the speech, drawing the attention of many delegates.

In a special UpFront, from the RNC, we speak to one of Trump’s top advisers, potential defense secretary Michael Flynn, about why he supports the candidate.

“To those listening, please, don’t stay home in November”, Cruz said.

Ted Cruz, with his wife Heidi, announced the suspension of his campaign in May.

Cruz responded: “This is not a game, this is not politics”. He added that “now that cloud is lifted off” Mrs. Trump. McIver released a statement Wednesday saying that she had inadvertently included some phrases from Mrs. Obama’s speech into Mrs. Trump’s address and offered her resignation.

The convention’s four days were dominated at times by controversies that distracted from Trump’s message. He said it’s “terrific” that McIver, who is an employee of the Trump Organization, admitted inadvertently lifting the first lady’s phrasing from her 2008 convention speech word-for-word.

“The coup never took place”. “I can understand his reluctance to endorse”. And before Trump talked, he said there was “likely nothing” thenominee could say to win him over. As far as I’m concerned, we need to abide by those, and we need to see our candidate do that.

“I think he needs to lay out some clear policy views, ” Kansas Governor Sam Brownback told the AP news agency.

Pence also lobbed criticism at their Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
