The shooting down of the Russian fighter jet, which was taking part in the Kremlin’s campaign to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, prompted Moscow to impose sanctions on Ankara to hurt its tourism and construction sectors.
Back in 2013, Russian Federation began work on the South Stream pipeline – Turkish Stream predecessor – that would have also bypassed Ukraine, taking Russian Federation gas under the Black Sea, into Bulgaria and then through Serbia, Hungary and into Austria.
“Moscow is at pains to avoid any words that could be interpreted as direct or indirect interference in the election process”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a conference call with reporters.
“This will be the first meeting after that collapse in our relations, the first one after the leaders of the two nations turned over that page”, Peskov said.
He further noted that the subjects of the planned meeting were discussed during the ongoing visit of a Turkish delegation, led by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek, to Moscow.
Turkey has thanked Russian Federation for its solid support of its legitimate government during the abortive putsch.
“We are here to improve our relations and bring them to an even higher level than before November 24”, he added.
Russian officials will visit Turkey next week to discuss the return of agricultural products now banned from the Russian market.
Nevertheless, the actual policy changes were not made; in fact, the Russian government said that the re-starting of flights will take some time.
The Kremlin said they do not rule resuming the Turkish Stream project – constructing the pipeline under the Black Sea to supply Russian gas to Europe, bypassing Ukraine.

The statement also suggests that negotiations for the establishment of a common fund to finance investment projects in Russian Federation and Turkey will resume.
