German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk had broken news of the event, saying on its website that a suitcase filled with aerosols was detonated in Zirndorf.

Although reports are unconfirmed at this moment, it is believed that nobody was seriously injured in the blast.

Images of the area suggest it was a relatively minor explosion.

According to police at the scene, eyewitnesses reportedly saw “Arab-looking men” running away from the scene after a loud bang was heard and a burning suitcase was seen in a small garden nearby.

There have no fatalities or injuries reported and no one is thought to have been seriously harmed.

The incident comes just days after a Syrian asylum seeker blew himself up in the southern German town of Ansbach. On Sunday, a 21-year-old Syrian refugee was arrested after killing a pregnant woman and wounding two people with a machete in the city of Reutlingen, near Stuttgart.
