Jospeh Gordon Levitt Takes on the NSA in ‘Snowden’ Trailer

“Google has invested in what surveillance is, data mining, which is about what you’re watching, what you’re buying, and Pokemon GO taps into that”, Stone said.

When asked what he thought of the phenomenon/mobile app, Stone called Nintendo’s newest game “A new level of invasion” and warned that it could lead to totalitarianism (via Variety). They say it’s an infinitely more trustworthy method of knowing your phone’s radios are off than “airplane mode”, which people have shown can be hacked and spoofed.

When former NSA contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden met with Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone to discuss a movie on his life, he never thought he would be making his own film debut.

Stone, 69, voiced his concerns during a Comic Con Q&A in San Diego when he was asked about security concerns with Pokémon Go. “It’s the newest stage”, he said. You’ll see a new form of, frankly, a robot society where they will know how you want to behave, and they will make the mock-up that matches how you behave. “It’s what you call totalitarianism”.

Snowden, the politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. A United Kingdom release date has yet to be confirmed.

The “introspection engine” is a pet project for Snowden, who told WIRED that he has not carried a smartphone since his famous leak of NSA information because he fears being tracked by the USA government. The device, dubbed “introspection engine”, would be a plastic case created to slide over an Apple iPhone 6, and will monitor the phone’s internal antennas to detect incoming and outgoing signals from the cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or Global Positioning System chips, alerting users of any snooping attempt.

The device will appear similar to an external battery case, and will support a small mono-color screen that will flash an alert when a transmission gets detected.

The makers are also considering adding a “kill switch” that would immediately shut down the phone if any suspicious radio transmissions are made.
