Tamil superstar takes over southern India ahead of film release
But what remains a fact is that Rajinikanth’s “Kabali” will not be a “Lingaa 2″. The film, also starring Taiwanese actor Winston Chao, was shot in Malaysia and southern India. Subramaniam lauded the makers for shooting the film in the country and adding to the economic growth. His last major film, the science fiction epic “Endhiran”, was one of India’s most profitable releases ever, grossing a record-breaking $13.8 million globally on its opening weekend in 2011 – including $4.4 million in the United States alone.

He made his debut in 1975 under K.Balachander’s Award-winning movie “Apoorva Raagangal”.
Rickshaws, buses and cars painted with Kabali imagery have become a common sight on the roads and one vehicle salesman in Tamil Nadu has been offering cars emblazoned with graphics from the film, which are reportedly selling out at speed. V Creations produced Kabali which released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam languages.
Though the film, which has more than almost 100 shows playing across several theatres in a single day in Mumbai, has been getting mixed reactions, it could not dampen the enthusiasm of the fans.
Thereafter, the festivities started for the inaugural show with a huge procession, beating of drums, singing and dancing by fans up to the theatre for the much-coveted “first day, first show” by any filmgoer. A group of Rajnikanth fans named the Maharashtra State Head Rajinikanth Fans Welfare Association in Matunga held a special prayer for Rajnikanth and Kabali at a temple in Matunga. “It was due to the unprecedented advance bookings and Rajinikanth factor, the film managed to register good opening”, Trinath said.
A source close to Big B said, “Bachchan will star in the remake of Kabali”. “Kabali [Tamil+Telugu] opening in worldwide markets: Malaysia: No 1 [Thu+Fri] USA-Canada: No 3 [Thu pre] UK: No 10 [Thu+Fri] @Rentrak”, tweeted Taran Adarsh.
Indian fans of Bollywood star Rajinikanth gather at a cinema on the first day of release of his new Tamil-language film “Kabali” in Chennai on July 22, 2016.
