The award, which is in its 20th year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the UK.
A green flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Maintaining the green areas in the hospital grounds are a key part of the Trust’s commitment to providing high quality care for patients, as research shows outdoor spaces not only improve mental health, but support and aid recovery.
The Green Flag award follows the council’s announcement earlier this week about plans for a new £1.2 million heritage and cultural centre in Gedling Country Park.
A Worksop park has been named as one of the best in the UK.
Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy, Ann Holland, said: “This is brilliant news for the Borough and testifies to the fantastic work the our parks team puts in every day into maintaining our handsome parks and green spaces”.
Horden’s two main parks have again been recognised as among the best in the country.
The woods are managed on a day-to-day basis by Corby Council and the Friends of Thoroughsale and Hazel Wood Group, which is made up of local volunteers committed to raising the standard and protecting the woodland.
Popes Meadow was the first site in Berkshire to be awarded a Green Flag in 2001 and has retained it every since in a “superb achievement” according to Cllr McCracken.
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme, especially as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards”.
