University of Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State University punter Mike Sadler were killed in an automobile crash in Merton, Wis., late Saturday night.
The trio of Sadler, Foltz and Delahoussaye drove off first, Meyer told the State Journal, relying on Global Positioning System. When news of the accident broke on Sunday – LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye suffered minor injuries in the crash – those who knew the young men were understandably stunned.
The three were at a kicking camp outside of Milwaukee and traveling to a wedding reception when the accident occurred.
Nebraska Huskers coach Mike Riley said Foltz had been a positive influence on the team.
Dan Tracy with Kohl’s Kicking said both Sadler and Foltz had been coaching at a weekend clinic in Wisconsin. That’s what makes me proud to be apart of Husker Nation; to know that yes, we love our football, but what we love even more is each other.
Our staff asks now for your patience as we continue to learn more details about this tragedy.
Sadler pulled away first, with Foltz and Delahoussaye, and relied on Global Positioning System.
Saddler played football as a punter for Michigan State University with the Spartans.
“We mourn today with all of the people who were better men and women for knowing Sam and Mike”, Kohl said. Members of the baseball team and the basketball team all wanted to send their thoughts and prayers and their heartfelt grief out after seeing the news.
While also developing into an All-America candidate on the field and a finalist for the Academic Heisman in the classroom, Sadler’s self-deprecation made him a fan favorite. Sadler was the driver, Jennifer Wallschlaeger, the sheriff’s department’s public information officer, said.
On Twitter, players used the hashtag #RIP27, which signified Foltz’s number. “And that’s the reason his impact will be felt by everyone who knew him for years to come”. Sadler of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was an All-American punter at Michigan State. “Sam was truly a tremendous young man who represented everything that a Nebraska student, athlete, teammate and friend should strive to be”. Police believe the two were killed instantly in the crash, but Delahoussaye, who was sitting in the backseat, emerged with second-degree burns on his left leg, stitches in his head and bruised ribs.
People will remember him as every single one of those things.
Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio tweeted condolences: “He gave us all so much in so little time”.
“If they would have hit the light post or the tree, I think they would have been OK”, Dwayne Delahoussaye said. And we look for explanations. “I’m very fortunate I got to spend the time with them that I did”.

LSU coach Les Miles said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler”.
