Men’s Basketball Ivies Earn NABC Team, Individual Academic Honors

Onuaku was also named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 Men’s Basketball first team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Honors Court list includes five members of the Bulldogs team that upset Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to secure its first-ever NCAA Tournament win. Cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher at the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year. 3.

To be named to the NABC Honors Court, players must be a junior or a senior academically, must have been enrolled at their current school for at least one full academic year and must carry at least a 3.20 GPA. Juniors and seniors who were on the varsity team were eligible.

A biology major, England graduated this past spring with a 3.67 GPA, and will spend the next year preparing for medical school.

Mount Olive: The men’s and women’s teams earned academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The NABC now has almost 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men’s basketball coaches. He now has a 3.33 GPA and is a two-time Pac-12 all-academic honoree having received first team honors as a junior in 2015-16 and second team as a sophomore.

Six Vandals earned Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors in the 2015 season. He has scored 88 career points with 49 rebounds, 26 assists and 13 steals.

Eliason has a 3.56 GPA majoring in zoology.

One of the top three-point shooting threats in the MIAC, Biewen finished the 2015-16 season ranked sixth in the MIAC in three point shooting (43%), while averaging 11.8 points per contest.

Vermeer has appeared in 39 career games at Navy with 10 starts. A math and stats double major, Biewen is now spending the summer as a marketing analyst intern with Marketing Achitects, a Twin Cities based advertising agancy. Eliason scored a season-high 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting against Northland College on December 30.

The academic success continues a recent trend for the UofL men’s basketball team. Most recently, Tommy Drake ’08, Scott Theisen ’13 and Taylor Hanson ’14 earned a spot on the academic distinction prior to their senior seasons. Come and support the Unicorn Volleyball team in 2016-2017.
