Nick Foles is reportedly a free agent after being released by Rams

The Rams will release quarterback Nick Foles, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday. “We appreciate the contributions that Nick has made to our organization in his time as a Ram and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors”.

Foles, 27, signed a two-year extension with the Rams shortly after they acquired him prior to the 2015 season. After just one season, not only is Gurley full healthy and recovered from that ACL injury, but he now has the chance to emerge as one of the league’s top running backs in 2016. Foles played in 11 games for the Rams last season, completing 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards with seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions. After a November 15 loss to Chicago, Foles was benched in favor of Keenum, a former practice-squad quarterback.

The Rams tried to trade Foles but were unsuccessful, a source told ESPN’s Dan Gaziano. He’s played in 39 career games with the Rams and Eagles. “But beyond that, it was more of a mutual thing, not that we said, ‘Don’t come.’ It was just, ‘Hey coach, I’d just rather stay away until we get things worked out.’ And I said, ‘I’m fine with that”‘. Now he’ll be lucky to find a starting job somewhere, although a team will likely bring him on as a backup. Keenum is earning $3.63 million on a one-year tender, first overall draft pick Jared Goff is earning $5.07 million in the first year of his rookie deal, and 2015 third-round draft pick Sean Mannion is earning $738k in the second year of his rookie deal.
