“I wasn’t particularly happy with what the fans and media picked up on, which was the marginalization of the character in ‘Into Darkness'”.

Director Justin Lin appears to be the “Man of the Thirds”, the guy you bring in for film number three in order to breathe new life into a franchise.

Backed by his strong army, Krall rips up the Enterprise, forcing Kirk and his crew to abandon ship.

Because although the Fast and Furious flicks are nothing to be ashamed of, they are pretty much pure action, whereas it’s not the action that has distinguished the character-driven Star Trek films but the relationships among the familiar characters and the futuristic philosophical ideas that characterized the just-below-the-surface subtext.

Just as Kirk, Spock and the crew seem eager to get back to their five-year voyage, you will be cheering for them to do and arrive in the theaters for the next film. And with the likes of screenwriters Simon Pegg and Doug Jung at his disposal, he charges into space at warp-speed. His sidekick, Mr Spock (Zachary Quinto), is also have doubts about whether exploring with the Enterprise is right for him.

The quips and cuts the characters take at each other create the comedic relief in the film. I thought some of the plot points and decisions made by The Federation were so ludicrous, I had a hard time suspending my disbelief for the majority of the movie. “There are some very honest and unguarded exchanges between Bones and Spock and that was very rewarding to play”. It can feel a little clunky to hear Krall explain every step of his evil plan, but in the way of many movie villains, this can be excused because he’s clearly desperate for people to listen to him talk. The New Zealand actor has been busy.

Delivering yet another memorable journey into the furthest reaches of space, the crew of the Starship Enterprise triumphantly return for a crowd-pleasing third chapter in this rebooted series. He is in the upcoming Disney film “Pete’s Dragon” and will be in Skurge in “Thor: Ragnarok”. He did this with the “Fast and Furious” series, and he does so admirably here, too. Another thing the movie celebrates is Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s legacy and takes it forward, updating it for a new generation.

“Star Trek Into Darkness”, the last entrance in the “Star Trek” franchise, divided just about everybody by trying to hide a twist that any person could see from a mile away.

The characters feels like they are part of a family..

Couple that with the destruction of their beloved ship and they have more than enough reasons for Scotty (Simon Pegg) to jerry-rig the warp drive, Bones (Karl Urban) to grumble and complain, and Lieutenant Uhura (Zoe Saldana) to excitedly push buttons on her colourful control board.

What the world needs now is “Star Trek”.

For now, he’s back playing McCoy as friend, doctor, philosopher, hero and counselor. This will not be the last Star Trek film and hopefully the next film will have a plot that is more interesting and deep than the one we have now, while still keeping the charm of the cast and their interactions.
