The boys and two adults left the Banana Bay resort for the trip off Key West on Tuesday, but a anxious relative called authorities when they did not return at their scheduled time of 4 p.m. EDT, the Coast Guard said Wednesday. A family member contacted the Coast Guard in Key West at 6:30 p.m.
Gilligan said she and her son were with the Thompsons and Kelley for mini season, though she and Thomas were not taking part in the annual sport season and were scheduled to leave Tuesday after the group returned. Boat crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are also assisting in the search. The Coast Guard has brought in planes and helicopters from as far away as Detroit and Cape Cod to help in the search.
If you live in the area you probably saw the U.S. Coast Guard C-130 methodically flying over the lake, zig-zagging from point to point for hours this morning.
Time Warner Cable News is expecting an update from Coast Guard officials later Wednesday morning.
