Unhappy campers: Chiefs without Berry, injured Charles, Houston

“Whether he’s here or not, I can’t answer that”.

Sources: #KCChiefs S Eric Berry is not planning to report with his teammates for training camp. I’m expecting both Howard and Bailey to have solid years again for Chiefs kingdom in 2016.

The four-time Pro Bowl safety and the Chiefs remain “miles apart” on contract negotiations.

Even though negotiations on a long-term deal can no longer take place, Berry might want to negotiate something more than the $10.806 million guaranteed salary that comes with the franchise tag. The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Berry on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, ensuring the All-Pro safety who overcame from cancer previous year will remain Chiefs property through next season. If things get ugly between the two sides, however, the Chiefs could also rescind the franchise tender and let Berry become a free agent.

The four-time Pro Bowl safety was Comeback Player of the Year in 2015, returning from months of cancer treatment and earning another trip to Hawaii. I’ve always said, ‘We’ll coach the guys who are here’. John deals with most of that.

Charles, who turns 30 in December, might miss the start of the regular season. “I know how he’s wired”.

“Sometimes with these things, it’s a weird dynamic you’re juggling with finances and playing and all those things”.

“It will all work out, one way or another, and he’s going to continue to be a heck of a football player for us”.
