He was with his family on a day trip in Yoho National Park when he slipped into the river at the Takakkawa Falls are.

Mahmood said he was with Ahmad’s parents and extended family in the Banff area on Tuesday morning to meet with Parks Canada staff and get an update on search efforts.

“It’s definitely an emotional time”, said Mahmood. Their cousin then jumped into the water, and was able to rescue the younger Ahmad.

While dealing with an emergency situation like this, she says the adrenaline is pumping, especially because searchers have empathy for the family’s situation.

He said the family is relieved they can proceed with a funeral service knowing the boy’s body has been found.
