Kim insists the movie star was not a drug addict, but he only has himself to blame for his untimely death.

That unfortunate reality is something that the family is dealing with on a daily basis, but they also want to use it to make sure that the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else.

Ledger’s death was ruled an accidental overdose after a toxicology report revealed six prescription drugs including oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, alprazolam, and temazepam were in his system.

The next morning, the Oscar-nominated actor was found dead in his Manhattan apartment January 2008.

“There’s so much pressure on them to perform, so even though your body is telling you that it’s not good and needs time, it’s like ‘just take these painkillers and keep going.’ That was the case with Heath”.

“Between the years 1992 and 2012 the number of units of opioid painkillers that were prescribed in Australia grew from 500,000 to 7.5 million and it’s still growing”, Kim said.

Ledger’s work and travel schedule reportedly put a lot of stress on him. Even as a two-year-old, he hardly ever slept. “That’s something we [himself, wife Sally and Kate] just have to deal with”. “He was trying to work and travel and do everything in a short space of time”.
