Bill Clinton tells a love story

Delegates erupted in cheers throughout the roll call of states on the floor of the Democratic convention on Tuesday night.

However, minutes after the roll call, more than 100 delegates supporting Sanders marched into the media center of the Democratic National Convention and staged a protest against Clinton’s nomination, waving posters and chanting “walk out” loudly.

“We knew this was going to happen because obviously we knew she was the presumptive nominee and that she had all the votes that she needed from the primaries”.

Other Sanders backers signaled they are ready to accept Clinton, especially as an alternative to Trump.

The longest and most lavish testimonial of the night was a tribute that began, “In the spring of 1971, I met a girl”. “And a great deal of drama in the room”, Bays said.

Hillary Clinton is expecting to trot out her vanquished Democratic rival – Bernie Sanders – to campaign for her in key battleground states this fall, including in New Hampshire, a top aide to the nominee said.

It is a historic moment 150 years in the making, starting when suffragettes demanded the right to vote and Victoria Claflin Woodhull became the first woman to run for president in the United States in 1872. But the former president has emphasized the historical significance of being the first male presidential spouse. And Bill Clinton’s speech was clearly the big moment of the night.

Tuesday’s main speaker in support of Clinton was her husband, Bill, who served two terms as the country’s president through most of the 1990s.

When Arizona’s turn came, Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Phoenix, announced that the state had 85 total votes, 34 of which went to Sanders.

Not all of Sanders supporters were as conciliatory.

“She tripled the number of people with aids in foreign countries whose lives are being saved with your tax dollars, majority in Africa, going from 1.7 million lives to 5.1 million lives, and it didn’t cost you any more money”, the former president said.

“Good for you, because earlier today you nominated the real one”, he said to cheers. In some way influencing the results and as a result what they are calling this protest is “no voice, no unity”. “They felt completely shut out”.

Pelosi’s speech ended with the Democratic women of the U.S. House of Representatives who joined her onstage also taking time at the mic to support Clinton.

“I married my best friend”. We need progressives on the ballot. Sanders didn’t just bring out political people; he brought out people like me, single moms, black people, Latinos. “That’s why we’re here tonight with Hillary Clinton (…) In memory of our children, we are imploring you, all of you, to vote this Election Day”. But on Tuesday, Clinton supporters were vociferous, easily drowning out the jeers.

“It started very, very divided”. “Whether that’s coming back from the brink of economic collapse to the longest stretch of private-sector job growth in the nation’s history, or whether that’s changing the way the world views the United States for the better”. Yes, there are still people who feel hurt by what’s happened.

Clinton also highlighted Hillary’s work with children’s issues healthcare, as well as reform in South Carolina’s prisons and in Arkansas’ education system during his tenure as governor; “Looks to me like we elected the wrong Clinton”, a state lawmaker once told him, he said.

But no one doubts that Bill Clinton still wants to be at the centre of the action.

There’s little question Bill Clinton remains a beloved figure within the party; he’s hosting a series of his own events during the convention, where top donors to his wife’s campaign will fete him after his speech.
