Roger Federer Out From Rio 2016 Olympics Due To Knee Injury

The player federer has announced this news and later confirmed it through personally, he has said on his official account that ” i’m extremely disappointed to announce that due to certain reasons, my chance for playing for my country Switzerland to represent it in the rio games, i’ll also going to miss the remainder of the season.

In a post on his Facebook page, he called it a “very hard position” that he made after consultations with his doctors and team. Still, the third-ranked player has played remarkable tennis in recent years, particularly last season when he reached the Wimbledon and US Open finals.

Federer won doubles gold with Stan Wawrinka at Beijing in 2008, but an Olympic singles title is the lone major prize to escape Federer in his record-breaking career, having finished runner-up to Andy Murray at London 2012.

“It is tough to miss the rest of the year”, he said. Last night’s shocking announcement makes 2016, the first year since 2000, that Federer will end a season without any major titles or trophy. Federer had a surgery in the knee in February and gave the French Open the miss with a back problem but returned for the Wimbledon.

Federer who lost in this years mens singles semi finals after a heavy fall in the 5th and deciding set against Canadian Milos Raonic said he requires “more extensive rehabilitation” if he wants to prolong his career. Federer fell awkwardly during that match, winding up face-down on the Centre Court grass, and had a trainer come out to check on his left knee afterward.

Federer said at the time he wasn’t sure how badly he might have been injured.

“I am as motivated as ever and plan to put all my energy towards coming back strong, healthy and in shape to play attacking tennis in 2017”, he added. “However, the silver lining is that this experience has made me realize how lucky I’ve been throughout my career with few injuries”.
