Ambush killings of unsuspecting law enforcement officers have increased more than 366 percent this year compared with the same time period one year ago, according to a report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

Gunfire killed 32 law enforcement officers between January first and July 20th.

7 of those deaths were in Louisiana, putting us at #2 in the nation behind Texas where 11 officers have been killed so far this year.

Fund President and CEO Craig W. Floyd said the targeted killings of officers must not continue.

The number of police officers who have died in the line of duty has gone up.

Despite the recent high-profile shootings of police, the average number of officers shot and killed on the job is significantly lower than in previous decades.

The blame for this can be placed squarely on activists for Black Lives Matter who have accused police of deliberately targeting blacks for death.

Fourteen have been killed so far this year, including Mari Johnson, a corrections officer at the French Robertson Unit in Abilene.

“I have seen them marching down the street essentially calling death to the police and I think we’re going to have to look into that”, Mr. Trump said earlier this month.

Stats show the top causes for officer deaths from 2004 until 2014 were: shooting, wrecks, illness, and being hit by a vehicle.
