IOC’s Bach confident Rio will solve problems before Games

There is little chance the TCU report will result in any punishment for organizers as most of the spending for the games, which run from August 5 through August 21, was channeled through Rio de Janeiro’s state and municipal governments.

The kangaroo issue blew up over the weekend when the Australian team got hopping mad over what it said were shambolic conditions at the Olympic Village, including blocked toilets, leaky pipes and risky wiring.

Better late than never for the Australian women’s eights rowing team at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, even if they’ll have to borrow a boat and oars.

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes brushed off the poll, telling Estadao that “people will understand the greatness of the Olympic Games. As you know, we have always had confidence in Brazil and the Brazilians”. From the airport President Bach travelled directly to the Olympic Village where he joined the meeting of the Chefs de Mission. The President then had breakfast with officials and athletes.

Argentina also abandoned the village while Italy and New Zealand said they had been forced to call in workers to fix problems after organizers admitted the blocks had been handed over without proper testing of water and power systems. We have received assurances that the few remaining challenges will be overcome by Friday.
