Donald Trump claims Fox moderator Megyn Kelly ‘bombed’ in Republican debate

A major US conservative forum has dropped Donald Trump as a speaker, saying it was unacceptable for him to suggest that a journalist was tough on him because she was menstruating.

Too far? Donald Trump made more than his fair share of polarizing comments at the GOP debate on Thursday, August 6, but one specific remark about Rosie O’Donnell has the Apprentice star in the hot seat.

“Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks”, Kelly said, as part an overall question regarding Trump’s views on women.

“I’m hoping that Mr. Trump, because he does speak off the cuff, because he doesn’t ascribe to political correctness, was speaking in a way that wasn’t fully thought out”, Spicer said.

“You’ve called women you don’t like, ‘fat pigs, ‘ ‘dogs, ‘ slobs, and disgusting animals”, Kelly opened a question to Trump. Blame Erick Erickson, your weak and pathetic leader. “We’ll now be doing another campaign stop at another location”. After the debate, Trump complained that he was picked on.

A later statement from his campaign said “only a deviant” would think Mr Trump meant anything else. “But I wouldn’t do that”.

“For the record”, Kelly said, “it was well beyond Rosie O’Donnell”. “Blood coming out of her – wherever”, Trump told CNN Friday evening. It is unfortunate to have to disinvite him.

“I’m just acknowledging the fact that the guy has hit a nerve. It just was wrong”.

“He is not a professional politician and is known for being a blunt talker”.

There were however, a number of lines from the debate that stood out, maybe even enough to be remembered 458 days later on Election Day: Tuesday, November 8, 2016. One of those tweets he quoted had bashed Kelly and referred to her as a “bimbo”.

Luntz indicated the group’s reaction meters showed a very negative response right out of the gate, when Trump refused to rule out running for president as a third-party candidate. The notable exception is Carly Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, who earned praise for her early performance, ending the night generating more search interest than Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, both of whom participated in the prime-time debate. In another message, he wrote that Kelly “really bombed”.
