Kaine adds to Virginia governor’s potential White House ties
Wasserman Schultz also was not expected to speak Monday night or throughout the duration of the convention, a Democrat close to her said. She will remain in Philadelphia until Friday when she formally steps down as leader of the committee. As the convention opened, they still erupted in chants of “Bernie” and booed Clinton the first several times her name was mentioned.

She came under relentless attack at the Republican convention in Cleveland, as speakers assailed her over the email controversy and her record as secretary of state and painted her as out of touch with ordinary Americans.
Trump has repeatedly suggested a “rigged system” kept Sanders from clinching the Democratic nomination, and Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort touted the DNC emails as evidence the committee set up a “rigged system. with the Clinton campaign”.
Sanders scored the resignation of party chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a nemesis in the primaries, but that wasn’t enough to quell the anger of supporters. The episode is an embarrassing distraction for the Democratic Party, as the Clinton campaign and its surrogates prepare to use the week to paint two starkly different visions between Clinton and Trump.
Another distraction: the source of the hack.
“We have to make sure that we move together in a unified way!” she said. The idea of Vladimir Putin’s Russian Federation somehow involving itself in U.S. politics is a story that is both serious and can also distract from Clinton’s messaging plans. “Bernie fought for nothing!” he said. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is an “excellent/pretty good” pick.
“Bernie supporters are outraged, was their last choice”.
In nominating Clinton, delegates made the point that the selection of a woman was a milestone in America’s 240-year-old history. Although Clinton is viewed slightly more favorably, she continues to suffer on the issue of trust: 65% said they do not believe Clinton is honest, a sharp rise from 50% who said the same in March 2015.
Democratic pollster Geoff Garin said he is realistic about how hard it is to remake Clinton’s image.
She said “you have helped shape us” and that she and her husband “will really need your prayers”. “There’s not going to be many more chances like this”.
Clinton’s campaign hoped the nighttime line-up would overshadow a tumultuous start to the four-day convention.
Kaine will try to define himself Wednesday when he addresses the Democratic convention in prime time.
Clinton is within days of her long-held ambition to become the party’s official presidential nominee.
Mr Sanders joined a high-wattage line-up of speakers, including Michelle Obama, whose address all but wiped away earlier tumult in the convention hall that had exposed lingering tensions between Clinton and Sanders supporters. Sanders had “totally sold out” to Clinton, he added in another tweet.
Supporters of Hillary Clinton say her Washington credentials show she has the experience needed for the White House during tough times as the United States tries to hasten its economic recovery and tackle challenges overseas like Islamic State and the rise of China. He stressed, however, the importance of Clinton continuing to embrace a progressive vision during the general election.
Clinton is also about to pick up a coveted endorsement.
And Clinton heads into Philadelphia with a political partner.
Sen. Tim Kaine returned to his longtime parish Sunday to re-energize his faith, sing solo with the gospel choir, and ask for prayers as he’s launched into the national spotlight as Hillary Clinton’s running mate.
Vouching for Clinton wasn’t Kaine’s only job during his star turn at the Wells Fargo Center.
The emails re-emphasized a rift that threatens to undermine the Democrats’ attempt to display four days of focus on putting Clinton in the White House.
“Trump is everything they don’t want”.

“They’re running against a cartoon”, Bill Clinton said in his speech. “Yeah, they are. He’s more conservative than I am”.
