Watch the first teaser for the ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival on Netflix
Amy Schumer-approved? With plenty of new pop-culture fodder to propel its dialogue, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’s first promo shows Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) bickering over whether the Inside Amy Schumer star’s lifestyle jibes with their own. A Year in the Life is set in the present day, almost a decade after the end of the original Gilmore Girls in 2007, and returns to the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. With Netflix releasing all four chapters of the new series simultaneously on November 25, Amy Sherman-Palladino is hoping fans don’t skip to the final scene without watching the previous installments first.

Along with the premiere date announcement, Netflix also dropped its first trailer to give fans a sneak peak into what A Year in the Life is going to look like. It’s going to mean a lot less if you skip to the last page. Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons before signing off in May 2007. And a very single, independent woman who has had guards up her whole life to protect her daughter and protect herself suddenly is wondering, ‘Where am I now? For more on the show, including details on returning cast members, head here. “It’s such a journey and because it’s such a build to the last four words and because I know that we live in an age where people are going to go right to the last four words and then put them on the Internet and possibly spoil it for people who are wanting to take that journey”.
Sherman-Palladino always explained that speed-talking enabled her to write more words and thus tell more story every episode. “It’s an age of ugliness and how do we stir up bad feelings, and it got this weird sheen on it”.
Because the final chapter is set in the fall, the question was raised about whether this was it for the Gilmore Girls story, Sherman-Palladino skirted around the question.
“[Melissa McCarthy arrived] on one of our last days, and it was incredible”, says Graham. “We had an incredible time and it just made it flawless – even more ideal than it already was”.
