Ryan Mathews Placed On Non-Football Injury List With Bad Ankle
He only played a full 16 games in one of his six National Football League seasons.

The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t even had their first full team training camp practice yet and starting running back Ryan Mathews is already dealing with an injury issue.
The 28-year-old running back Ryan Mathews could be activated at any time, but he can’t practice while he’s still on the said list.
Though the Eagles have not presented a timetable for Mathews’ return, this nugget hints at an injury that isn’t too severe. Though the Eagles have suggested they plan to utilize a running-back-by-committee approach, it’s been expected Mathews will be the team’s starter. But with his inability to stay on the field, the Eagles’ running back situation is lackluster at best. It seemed painfully obvious to fans that when both backs were healthy last season, Mathews was much more effective. He’s going to put himself in a position, I’m hoping, to help us this season.
“We’ve just got to see”, head coach Doug Pederson said.
Earlier Wednesday, the Eagles released linebacker Travis Long, who spent the last two seasons on injured reserve. He tore his right ACL while he was in college. “We’ll just go day-by-day and just see where it ends up in the next couple of days”.

To fill Long’s roster spot, the Eagles signed rookie wide receiver David Watford, who played quarterback at Hampton after transferring from the University of Virginia. He made a position switch upon entering the National Football League and participated in the Eagles’ rookie minicamp as a wide receiver in May.
