Ailes appears close to leaving Fox News

An unauthorized 2014 biography of Roger Ailes written by Gabriel Sherman, a New York Magazine reporter, also included details of sexual assault as told by anonymous female employees.

It’s hard to overstate the significance of Ailes’ departure from Fox News, a network he built into a ratings powerhouse over a span of almost two decades.

Earlier this month, the cable news giant said it had launched an internal review of allegations in a lawsuit by Fox News host and former Miss America Gretchen Carlson, who claimed she was sacked for rejecting Ailes’s sexual advances.

Lawyers for Carlson are trying to stop Ailes from moving her lawsuit from New Jersey state court to NY federal court and forcing the case into private arbitration under the terms of her contract.

In the days after the suit was made public, Carlson’s attorney announced that more than a dozen women had come forward with similar stories about Ailes.

Susan Estrich, one of Ailes’ lawyers, said Tuesday that both sides are in the advanced stages of negotiating his departure.

So far, Kelly has officially declined to comment, but her lawyer told the New York Times on Tuesday that “she has cooperated with the inquiry fully and truthfully”. Shortly after that, 21st Century Fox, the parent company of Fox News, offered a complete contradiction to Grove’s report. At Rupert Murdoch’s behest, Ailes started a news network that catered to conservatives who felt ignored by the mainstream media.

That had given Ailes power in some corporate scrapes he had with Rupert Murdoch’s sons. “The only agreement that is in place is his existing employment agreement”.

Ultimately, Mr. Ailes signed on for three years and technically reports to all three Murdochs, making him the only 21st Century Fox executive who still is a direct report to Rupert Murdoch.

The longtime conservative news executive will soon be out of a job after his standing went into a sudden free fall after allegations of sexual harassment from former Fox News Channel host Gretchen Carlson. In 1996, Ailes was hired by Australian media giant Robert Murdock to launch Fox News, an empire that Sherman calls “The Biggest Voice in the Room”.

The Daily Beast writes: “Fox initially confirmed Drudge’s report to The Daily Beast, and subsequently walked back that confirmation”. Estrich said that she believed it was a “draft term sheet” that “got floated around somehow.in the jumble of PDFs”.

Ailes’ rep, Irena Briganti, did not return a request for comment.

Ailes defended her and in a statement at the time said she “is an excellent journalist and the entire network stands behind her”.

According to the suit, Carlson met with Ailes to discuss discriminatory behavior by Steve Doocy, a co-host with Carlson on Fox & Friends. Fox News has a strong presence at the Republican National Convention now underway in Ohio.
