Demonstrators have been protesting outside Governor Mark Dayton’s residence since the fatal July 6 shooting of 32-year-old Philando Castile.

Forty-six protesters were arrested Tuesday after police ordered the group to stop blocking the street and sidewalk.

Police in the USA state of Minnesota have arrested dozens of protesters participating in a rally over the killing of an African-American man by a police officer earlier this month.

In response, police arrested a number of people, and video from the scene shows officers dragging protesters from the remains of the encampment, CBS Minnesota reported.”We linked up in solidarity to tell them that we’re not going to let them arrest him”. St. Paul police said more than 20 people had been arrested for unlawful assembly.

After almost two weeks of protests, St. Paul police cleared out the area early last week only to see protesters return on Sunday. “And at that point they physically became abusive”, protest organizer Curtis Avent said. Castile’s girlfriend streamed the aftermath live on Facebook and said Castile was shot while reaching for his ID after telling the officer he had a gun permit and was armed.

The preliminary costs jumped $500,000 in the past week.

Protesters Arrested at Minn.

‘We continue to be committed to allow for peaceful protests, but we have an obligation that people are safe and follow the rules, and when that’s no longer the case we need to take action, like we did today, ‘ St Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said. Some were arrested, some came back when police pulled back.

“The people were arrested after being told to disperse and stop blocking the sidewalk”, the statement said. Around 23 people were arrested at 2 a.m. after about 45 were arrested hours earlier.

Authorities are not saying much as the Castile shooting investigation nears the one-month mark. The protests have repeatedly blocked off Summit Avenue to vehicle traffic, with protestors setting up tents, tarps, tables and even fire pits. Police have made more than 150 arrests during protests since Castile’s death.

Police tried several times to reopen the street, Linders said. Castile was shot and killed the previous night by a police officer in Falcon Heights, MN.
