Bernie Sanders, Michelle Obama electrify Democrats on convention’s opening night
However, Larry Cohen, an adviser to the Sanders campaign and a former president of the Communications Workers of America, said of Mr. Kaine, “People are minimizing the range of this man by putting him in some box I would argue he doesn’t belong”. Referring to Trump’s penchant for tweeting, she said of the presidency: “It can not be boiled down to 140 characters”.

The emails suggested party officials favored Clinton over rival Sanders during the primaries. But Democrat’s hopes were dashed Sunday when DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned under pressure over hacked emails.
Sanders will address the convention Monday night, and Obama will speak on Wednesday night.
Sanders did his part, imploring his supporters to consider a country under Trump’s leadership. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a favorite of liberals and one of the party’s toughest critics of Trump, was also taking the stage.
“Donald Trump has no real plans for jobs, for college kids, for seniors”, she said in the keynote address.
Speeches by Vice President Biden and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who considered an independent campaign for president, also are expected to make the case for Clinton’s election over Donald Trump, the billionaire developer who is now the only person who could prevent the election of the nation’s first woman president. She warned that the White House couldn’t be in the hands of someone with “a thin skin or a tendency to lash out” or someone who tells voters the country can be great again.
Clinton has chosen Kaine to be her running mate.
Clinton’s campaign aims to use the convention to try and rectify both problems.
Hillary Clinton named Tim Kaine, the Virginia senator who has made the Middle East one of his fortes, her running mate.
Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, tried to shift blame for the email hack away from DNC officials and onto “Russian state actors” who, he said, may have breached DNC computers “for the objective of helping Donald Trump”, the Republican presidential nominee.
“When I lived in Honduras, I learned that the best compliment you could give someone was to say they were “listo”- ready”, Kaine said.
But in Philadelphia, delegates waved “Love Trumps Hate” signs and cheered as immigration supporters, gay rights advocates and labor leaders took the stage.
Comedian-turned-senator Al Franken, a Clinton supporter, and actress Sarah Silverman, a Sanders supporter, made a joint appearance to promote party unity.
“I am proud to be part of Bernie’s movement”, Silverman said as the crowd roared.
“Trump is a guy who promises a lot, but you might have noticed, he’s got a way of saying the same two words every time he makes his biggest (hugest) promises: ‘Believe me, ‘” Kaine joked, saying that he trusts Clinton, but doesn’t trust Trump in charge. The tone was a sharp contrast to the Republican convention, where the attacks against Clinton was bitingly personal, including chants of “Lock her up”. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe told delegates Monday morning he hoped delegates will treat the often-controversial Wasserman Schultz with respect as she continues to participate in the convention, noting that “she wants to get up there”.
The outgoing chairwoman did watch the gathering from a private suite at the arena.
He said there is talk among Sanders’ delegates of walking out during Kaine’s acceptance speech or turning their backs as a show of protest.
“I think (Kaine) is a medium choice at best, ” said Bill Benet, a university professor, a former member of the Monroe County Legislature and a Sanders delegate. The mistrust Sanders supporters have for the Democratic party was exacerbated by leaked DNC emails, which showed some party staffers trying to undermine Sanders.
The statement from incoming interim party leader, Donna Brazile, and six other officials says the comments in the emails “do not reflect the values of the DNC or our steadfast commitment to neutrality during the nominating process”.
“What I think is scary is a president who doesn’t know their stuff and doesn’t seem to have interest in learning what they don’t know”, Obama said.

“No, never, not in a million years, no. I wouldn’t vote for her for dog catcher”, said Melissa Arab of Shelby Township, Michigan. The Florida congresswoman heeded Sanders’ longstanding call to leave as party chief.
