Hillary Clinton shatters glass ceiling, literally, at Democrat’s convention

Hillary Clinton became the first female presidential nominee of a major party, and her husband made a personal but forceful case for her to reoccupy the White House – this time from the West Wing. She called Clinton, “the lesser of two evils”. “Bernie can be the face of the revolution, but the revolution will still continue”.

Thousands of activists have also taken to the streets during the convention this week to support Sanders and his progressive agenda.

“Building a caucus within the Democratic Party means we also need to build accountability”, said Cecil D. Corbin-Mark, deputy director of policy at WE ACT for Environmental Justice, an advocacy organization, in remarks to the caucus.

Lewis said the Democrats broke barriers by selecting the first black man, President Barack Obama, to be commander-in-chief in 2008. Obama said Clinton is trusted by world leaders and will keep America safe.

Obama said the message at last week’s GOP convention in Cleveland “wasn’t particularly Republican – and it sure wasn’t conservative”.

Earlier Wednesday, Clinton’s running mate, Virginia Sen. The party moves forward again with Clinton’s nomination, he said.

Biden tells MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the party has done “the right thing” for those voters, but “hasn’t spoken enough” to them. The platform is not binding on the nominee.

Clinton can struggle to show compassion in front of crowds – something her supporters, including the mother of a shooting victim, says she shares in private.

Clinton’s base-boosting strategy has some Democrats anxious that she is ceding too much ground to her opponent.

“I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet”, Clinton told party loyalists. “And I really hoped that she choosing me and rejecting my own advice to pursue her own career was a decision she’d never regret”. “Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing”, Trump said, referring to emails Clinton sent and received while secretary of state but deleted on grounds they were personal and not work-related.

On Tuesday, Sanders fans and other protesters burned Israeli flags outside the convention center, chanting, “Long live the intifada”.

“I’d like to have seen him accomplish single-payer [health care], but the votes just weren’t there”, said Will T. Cheek, a superdelegate from Tennessee.

The former president took voters back to a time before an affair with an intern led to his impeachment and to intense public scrutiny of the first couple’s marriage.

It’s true that Trump doesn’t support the federal minimum wage.

Tuesday’s nomination followed a hard-fought primary campaign against Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, and a contingent of Sanders supporters has continued to disrupt the DNC and protest against Clinton’s nomination, including after last night’s roll-call vote. Events would seek to contrast Clinton’s approach to national security with Trump’s “unsteady, unfit and risky approach”, said Clinton campaign chair John Podesta.

“It’s not about the convention, it’s about the country”, he said. To Michelle, the presidential race is the one between a positive role model for children in Hillary Clinton, and a damaging one in Donald Trump.

It’s widely believed that Russian agents are behind a dump of emails that suggest officials in the Democratic National Committee considered ways to undermine Sanders’ candidacy. But in a rebuke to his more rebellious supporters, he urged for a larger calling after they booed him at a meeting where he called for closing of ranks.
