‘They can not silence us’: Sanders supporters protest after Clinton nomination

Some delegates reading state vote tallies peppered them with messages of support for Sanders and what he calls the “political revolution” he started.

In New York’s delegation, annoyed Sanders supporters struggled to even secure a room to meet in to discuss all that’s happened.

Their critics fear they may inadvertently help Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“I’m here with Hillary Clinton because she is a leader and a mother who will say our children’s names”, Sandra Bland’s mother Geneva Reed-Vealsaid said. “I can tell you this, if you were sitting where I’m sitting and you heard what I have heard at every dinner conversation, every lunch conversation on every long walk, you would say this woman has never been satisfied with the status quo in anything”, he said.

Clinton’s long political resume – secretary of state, senator, first lady – has sometimes obscured the historic nature of her candidacy.

The same was true for many Hillary Clinton backers after her quest for the nomination in 2008 fell to a fellow named Barack Obama.

“I married my best friend”. He told us how she looked and what she was wearing when he met her. He told us how he spent several years trying to get her to marry him and how “the third time was the charm”.

Obama gave a shout out to Sanders and his supporters _ and implored Democrats who disagreed with her on some issues to give her a chance. “It’s hard”, she said. “Good for you because earlier today you nominated the real one”.

Day two of the Democratic National Convention is complete, and Hillary Clinton is officially the Democratic nominee.

And again, Clinton’s masterfully affable stage presence seemed to get through to at least some people, perhaps even in spite of themselves.

Remember the children ” This isn’t about being politically correct.

“What an incredible honour that you have given me”, she said to roars from the crowd. On the other hand, it would have opened up discussion of his behavior as a legitimate topic of discussion in the 2016 race, which Hillary would probably consider to be at best a distraction and at worst a reminder of the things about her and her husband that some voters don’t like.

Philadelphia’s police union complained that Clinton was showcasing killings by police without giving equal time to the families of fallen officers.

Also in high demand at party conventions was Ronald Reagan-blessed, like Clinton, with a gift for oratory. With his quintessentially Clinton speech, Bill had forced a new reality on the Democratic Party, and particularly on supporters Bernie Sanders, just hours after they attempted one final, dramatic stand for their failed primary candidate.

Obama, due to address the meeting on Wednesday evening, has been vocally critical of the Republican candidate, and is likely to contrast his optimistic view of the United States with Trump’s darker vision, on a day when the convention will focus on national security.
