Busch’s victory at New Hampshire last July occurred in the middle of the most productive stretch of the greatest comeback in auto racing history.
Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. had the dominant cars for much of the afternoon, but Matt Kenseth was better when it mattered winning Sunday’s NASCAR race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The duo finished 26th and 34th respectively.
Before he had even learned of the post-race inspection issues Sunday, Kenseth was asked about moving up to eighth in the points standings (which likely won’t hold after penalties are assessed in a day or two). “I show up to race”.
“I think when I am away and not in the race vehicle, in the shop and talking about that stuff, it is something you should talk about”, Logano said. “I tried a little too hard to begin with and made some moves and mistakes that I hadn’t made in a long time”.
It’s been the story throughout the Sprint Cup schedule, but perhaps nowhere more emphatically than the Magic Mile. Logano became the Sprint Cup’s youngest victor ever when he won at New Hampshire Motor Speedway as a rookie in 2009, though it was one of the more odd victories in NASCAR history.
He won Saturday’s Xfinity Series race in dominating fashion. We always support and for detractors it’s known if the team and obviously did the math. Today you know around the truck and knowing her dollars.
And Sunday, the only question was which Toyota would be best.
Hey, he wasn’t the only one bored watching Busch rout the field and lead 190 of 200 laps. Truex passed him again and led the next 83. Busch took the lead on lap two and led for 35 laps in a row at one point. Their teammates were close behind on the board, if not on the track.

By then, the Sprint Cup race at Atlanta already had set a track record for green-flag passes for the lead (44) in the first event using the 2016 aerodynamic configuration for open-motor tracks. Though the accident knocked the speed out of the vehicle, Bowman was able to stay on the lead lap.
Bad luck befell the leaders. The other two cautions were for debris. Busch was nicked in heavy traffic on turn 2 after a restart for the 291st lap and couldn’t recover.
All along, however, first place was off limits. It didn’t include Carl Edwards, whose No. 19 Toyota was damaged in the four-car Lap 285 chain-reaction wreck that caused the seventh and final caution.
Throughout the day, he said, restarts were key.

“We certainly look to come out here this weekend and have a good strong run and get ourselves to victory lane”, said Busch. “Other than that, just tried to take what it would give us and go from there”. Thanks to everybody at Joe Gibbs Racing.
